Charlie is a classically trained pianist with a profound passion for the art of singing, mastery of piano technique, and the pursuit of a well-rounded musical experience. Based in New York City, he is a proud graduate of Chapman University’s prestigious accelerated BM program, where he was the only student of his year to double major in Piano Performance and Keyboard Collaborative Arts. He also holds an MM degree from the Manhattan School of Music.
Charlie is currently an artistic staff pianist at the Manhattan School of Music, the Juilliard Extension Program, the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, and Music by Many. In addition to his collaborative roles, he is a dedicated piano instructor at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and runs his own private piano studio in New York City. Since 2023, he has also been serving as a collaborative pianist at the Interlochen Arts Camp during the summer season.
Mr. Zhang is a highly acclaimed soloist and chamber musician, with performances spanning the U.S., Hong Kong, and Europe.
In addition to his thriving performance career, he is also an accomplished educator. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was invited to present lectures, talks, and concerts on Asian music in New York State, reaching an audience of over 300 students. His contributions as an educator extended to online teaching, where he shared his expertise with a global audience. With years of experience in piano education, Mr. Zhang excels in combining advanced piano performance techniques with effective and engaging pedagogy.
As a collaborative pianist, Charlie Zhang has performed in recitals, masterclasses, and studios with renowned musicians, including pianists Martin Katz, Warren Jones, Rita Sloan, and Alan Smith; classical voice teachers Mignon Dunn, Cynthia Hoffmann, Susan Quittmeyer, Christopheren Nomura, Sidney Outlaw, Mark Schnaible, and Dimitri Pittas; musical theatre educators Bob Stillman, Sam McKelton, Angela Owen and Claudia Catania; violinists William Fitzpatrick, Nicholas Mann, Curtis Macomber, and Lucie Robert; and cello teacher Philippe Muller, among others.
