Why study with an In The Pocket NYC Teaching Musician?

Inspiration

The Musicians of In The Pocket NYC teach because they love what they do.   When you study with an ITPNYC musician, you are in the hands of someone who seeks to pass on the tools of their trade and inspire students the way they were inspired by their mentors.

Professionalism

ITPNYC Musicians happily balance two professional lives: their performing careers and their teaching careers.  In order to do that, these musicians must be organized, communicative, respectful and creative.  These musicians are selective with whom they accept into their studio so that they may give their all to these students.

Performing Opportunities

Multiple times a year, the Teaching Musicians of In The Pocket NYC join together, with their students,  to produce 'Dedicated' Recitals.  Each recital is dedicated to a selected organization to recognize a contribution to New York City's Music Education scene.  Students learn first hand how they may share their music with an audience while helping their community.

Where to begin?

Browse through our Musician Profiles and email the Teaching Musician(s) directly.  Express your interest in studying and share some information about your background and goals.  The Teaching Musician will get back to you and if they have room in their studio, the two of you can set up a consultation to discuss further details.

Choosing a private music teacher is a delicate and personal process.  Beyond the experience and skill of the teacher, it is important that the right chemistry exists.  In some cases, this is apparent within the first 20 minutes of meeting.  In other cases, it takes a few lessons.  Give lessons with a teacher a real chance by sticking with it for a few weeks before deciding.  If things are going well, then you've found your mentor!  If things seem to not be the right fit, don't give up!  Just try another teacher.
